'My 600-lb Life': Where is Samantha Mason now? Here's how she managed her weight during coronavirus

Publish date: 2024-06-21

Samantha Mason, 35, was the subject of the premiere episode of 'My 600-lb Life'. She contacted Dr Younan Nowrazadan aka Dr Now after deciding to lose weight for her daughter Isabella. She didn't want to put her daughter in the dead parent club and wished to live to see the day she graduated.

While Samantha couldn't do much to keep on track with being healthy initially and ended up weighing 100 lbs more than she did before joining Dr Now's program. Samantha was supposed to fly to Houston to meet with Dr Now but there were no vehicles that could fit her.

Her condition began to worsen and Dr Now managed to contact Dr Hydery in Denver who operated on Samantha as a last-ditch attempt to save her life her weight ballooned to 1,000 pounds. What led to this emergency operation was her stint at the hospital after developing severe stomach, shoulder and chest pains. The hospital was unable to determine the cause for the pains and the swelling on Samantha's body and were still trying to figure it out even though it'd been six weeks since she was at the facility. They kept doing their thing, running test after test and she kept doing hers, sneaking food and not keeping up with the controlled diet that the hospital had put her on with directions from Dr Now.

She had lost bladder control and was wetting her bed most of the time because she couldn't get up to get to the bathroom in time. She lay in her filth for quite some time before requesting that her sheets be changed.

She was constantly eating and then some but at the same time hated the fact that she was so dependent on food and that there was nothing she could do to stop herself. She addressed it with Dr Now via video call and he told her that she'd been eating food that would suffice her for the next four years. After a long chat, Samantha agreed that she would follow a 1,200 calorie diet and also consult with a physical trainer and a psychotherapist. She began the program but only lost ten pounds from it and then hit a plateau. She was giving this her all and even though her progress was small, she was determined to pull through and stay alive for her daughter Isabella

It was around this time that Dr Now had asked Dr Hydery to operate on Samantha. The gastric sleeve surgery helped her weight drop down to 638 lbs. She was way thinner now but still unhappy. She was depressed that she couldn't eat anymore like she used to and that made her feel incredibly sad.

To top that, the coronavirus restrictions were implemented across the country because of which and the camera crew had to go home and she was left in charge of shooting the rest of the episode. The only company that she had at most times was the crew but the pandemic took that away from her as well. But it's not all bad news. At the end of the episode, Samantha had an update for the viewers that she was doing decently and was still following everything that she needed to, in order to live a healthy life. Even though she couldn't completely show off how much she'd lost because she was shooting alone, from whatever we could see, she looked a lot better than from when she started and happier too. What do you think of Samantha's transformation? Let us know in the comments.
